How Much Does Mediation Cost?

Mediation Costs

  • You attend the first meeting alone . This is called a MIAMS meeting ( Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting).
  • At this meeting you will discover more facts about what family mediation is and is not.
  • You will be able to ask any questions you like.
  • This meeting will help you to decide if you will find family mediation a useful process.
  • There is no commitment to enter into family mediation.
  • Remember that family mediation is a voluntary process therefore there is never any commitment to carry on.

Michael is qualified to provide MIAMS meetings ( Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting) and is accredited by the Family Mediation Council (FMCA (URN) 0818A) to sign court forms ( previously form FM1)( C100 and Form A).

These have been required since 22nd April 2014 before being allowed to start most Family Court proceedings for matters relating to finances or children.

MIAMS meetings charges are as follows:

  • The fee for a single MIAMS meeting is £120 and no VAT.
  • I am able to assess for availability of public funding / legal aid and am accredited by the Legal Aid Agency but I do not provide a legal aid service.
  • Certificate for court forms C100 / Form A / FM1 £49 no VAT.

MEDIATION charges :

  • If you both decide that you want to mediate to find solutions to your problems the fee is £120 per hour per person and no VAT.
  • Mediation meetings are usually fixed for 1.5 hours therefore cost £180 for each person.
  • There is a minimum fee of £120 per person per family mediation session.
  • Fees are usually payable at the end of each mediation session except in the case of online mediation when fees are payable in advance.

FREE GOVERNMENT VOUCHER:

Where there is an issue about child arrangements, the cost of  mediation will probably be covered by a new free non means tested temporary government scheme (to last until April 2025) offering a non means tested £500 voucher per family towards the cost of mediation, which does not though cover the cost of the MIAMS. However, if there is an issue about child arrangements it also covers financial issues.
